Christylez Bacon – Human Beatbox, Grades K-5: December 9, 2016
Christylez Bacon (pronounced: chris-styles), GRAMMY nominated Progressive Hip-Hop artist combines rhyming, storytelling and interactive call and response choruses with diverse instrumentation to deliver a message of cultural acceptance and unification blending traditional elements of musical styles from jazz to hip-hop. This program is sponsored by the CCES PTA.

Traveling Science Program/MD Science Center, Grade 4: December 12, 2016
The Circuit Masters Traveling Science Program will be presented to our fourth graders. Students will learn to incorporate different types of switches as they assemble series and parallel circuits and solve problems. This program is sponsored by the CCES PTA.

Cosmic Adventures Travelling Planetarium, Grade 1: December 16, 2016
Cosmic Adventures Travelling Planetarium will be presented to our first graders. The planetarium features a 16 foot mobile dome with a state-of-the-art digital projector that simulates the galaxy. Students become astronomers for an hour as they identify, observe and describe properties of the earth, sun, moon, and stars. This program is sponsored by the CCES PTA.

Nancy Charamella Weaving Residency, Grades 3-5: January 23-February 17, 2017
This year CCES PTA is excited to welcome artist-in-residence Nancy Charamella, local weaving artist and former HCPSS art teacher, to CCES. Students in grades 3-5 will have three sessions with Nancy as they learn the cultural significance of weaving, produce a small weaving project to take home and collaboratively participate in preparing a weaving tapestry that will be displayed at CCES. This opportunity for students is sponsored by the CCES PTA along with a generous grant from the Howard County Arts Council!

Mark T. Rooney, An Introduction to Taiko, the Art of Japanese Drumming, International Night: March 3, 2017 @ 7:30 pm
International Night will culminate with a performance by Japanese Drummer Mark T. Rooney. This interactive program will feature both traditional and contemporary songs and rhythms on taiko drums, taiko drumming history, the use of one’s voice in taiko and Japanese vocabulary. There will be opportunities for student AND parent participation so come join in the fun! This program is sponsored by the CCES PTA.
